Mentoring

MENTORING at Northside Christian School

Did you know that we have a student mentoring program at Northside Christian School? This is a volunteer program incorporated into the Jr/Sr Bible class each week and is led by Jr/Sr Bible teacher Pastor Brad Jury and Jane Peterson (former NCS elementary teacher and current NCS substitute teacher). At the beginning of the school year students choose a class to mentor from grades K4 — 7/8th grades. Weekly mentoring workshops provide time for mentors to work in their small groups where they prepare a Bible lesson to present to their assigned classes once a month. Student mentors also have an opportunity to prepare and present an elementary and middle school chapel during the second semester.

Mentoring Goals:

  • Gospel opportunities
  • Build relationships with younger NCS peers
  • Build relationships within their mentoring teams
  • Prepare to serve in children’s ministries in the local church
  • Hands-on training in the classroom
  • Develop, organize, and plan age appropriate Bible lessons
  • Build school unity by working with different grade levels and teachers
  • Student leadership and service
  • Grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus (1 Peter 3:18)

What a blessing it has been to see some of our high school mentors taking their mentoring experiences into their local churches and serving in children’s ministry, or even choosing elementary education as a major in college. We pray that mentoring at Northside Christian School will continue to be a springboard for our students to sign up to work at a camp, teach a Bible lesson, help at VBS, and many more opportunities. We know that coming alongside one another is the way of Jesus, and pray that our high school mentors would learn, love, and live Christ in the context of serving others in their local churches during and even beyond their years at Northside Christian School.
